How to Educate Guests about BookDirect: Carmel Valley Lodge

We love to profile the work that individual property owners, innkeepers and associations are working to educate the public on the benefits of booking direct – so many potential guests don’t understand that booking on an OTA is taking revenue from a small business owner – and once they understand, they are almost always very happy to help!

One California innkeeper is promoting the #BookDirect movement by using visual cues as well as one-on-one guest contact. Theresa from Carmel Valley Lodge in Carmel Valley is using a poster and pretty discount cards, along with positive reinforcement, to teach her guests about Book Direct. Theresa says that most guests just don’t know that they weren’t on her site when they booked, and that they like the cards – can’t blame them – they are so pretty, and discounts are always welcomed!

  1. Diana, that is great! Is it ok if we use a few of your Instagram posts in a future blog post about Guest Education?
